Chevening Scholarships
The British Chevening Scholarships, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, are prestigious awards which enable overseas students to study in the United Kingdom. The scholarships are offered in more than 150 countries and enable talented graduates and young professionals to become familiar with the UK and to gain skills, which will benefit their country.
The Chevening Programme currently provides around 2300 new scholarships each year, worth about GBP41 million, for postgraduate studies or research at UK institutions of higher education. Most scholarships are for one-year Master’s course or equivalent.
Shared funding scholarship programmes are also available. Shared funding arrangements with commercial companies, universities, trusts, foundations and other appropriate organisations are an important part of the programme.
British Embassies and High Commissions overseas select candidates for British Chevening Scholarships. The British Council on behalf of the FCO administers the scholarships overseas and in the UK.
The British Chevening Scholarships are named after the Chevening House in Kent, which houses the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.
