Appeals and complaints
Appeals
93% of applicants worldwide receive the visa that they have applied for. If you are refused a visa, you will receive a written notice explaining why. To ensure that we have made a fair decision, in accordance with the Immigration Rules, many refusals are reviewed by an Entry Clearance Manager within 24 hours.
In some cases you will have the right of appeal against the decision. The appeals process is free of charge. The categories of application which attract a right of appeal are set down in UK legislation. At the time that your visa is refused you will be told if you have the right of appeal, and if so will be given advice on how to appeal. If you do not have a right of appeal, you may still write and ask for your application to be reviewed again by the Entry Clearance Manager. You should provide copies of any relevant supporting documents and comprehensive reasons why you think that the decision was wrong to help the Entry Clearance Manager review your application thoroughly.
If you have previously been refused a visa, you are welcome to make another application at any time and the decision in this case will not in itself prejudice any subsequent application. However, if the reasons for your refusal still apply, you may be refused again.
