High Commissioner's career history

His Excellency Mr. Malcolm McLachlan MBE

Mr. McLachlan is a career diplomat, who has served in a range of countries in Asia, Africa and the Americas before being chosen to be British High Commissioner in Fiji. He arrived in Fiji on 16 April 2009, having concluded three years as Deputy Head of the South East Asian and Pacific Group at the Foreign Commonwealth Office. During that time, he was no stranger to Fiji, having visited three times over the past three years. He has also attended the last three Pacific Island Forum Post Forum Dialogue meetings in support of UK Ministers.

Mr. McLachlan has also served as Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam. He was Head of the Political Section at the British High Commission in Nairobi between 1996 and 2001 and has also served in Guatemala and Pakistan.

Mr. McLachlan is married to Dr. Mary McLachlan, a medical doctor, and has two daughters.
