Our High Commissioner

Her Majesty's High Commissioner to Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu

His Excellency Mr. Mac McLachlan MBE

Message from the High Commissioner

Bula Vinaka, Mauri, Ekamawir Omo, Malo e Lelei, Talofa and Welkom to the website of the British High Commission in Suva, Fiji Islands.

It is a great honour for me to have been chosen to lead the UK’s efforts in Fiji. I am also responsible for our bilateral relationships with Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

Together with my team at the High Commission, and our other diplomatic representations in the Pacific, in Port Moresby and Honiara, we are committed to fostering and strengthening the UK’s relationship with the people of the South Pacific. We cherish the rich historical links and friendship that our peoples' share. We aim to do all we can to build on this strong foundation to enable us together to meet the global challenges ahead.

The main aim of the High Commission is to promote democracy and respect for human rights and the rule of law in Fiji and across the region. Another focus is supporting efforts to combat and adapt to Climate Change, to which the islands of the South Pacific are particularly vulnerable. We work bilaterally, and in cooperation with our EU, Commonwealth and regional partners.

The High Commission also delivers important services to British citizens, and to the peoples of Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

About 90,000 British Nationals visit the South Pacific each year, and nearly half of you visit Fiji. We strongly recommend that you keep yourselves informed by reading the Foreign Commonwealth OfficeTravel Advice on Fiji and the other countries to which we are accredited. Please also register with our LOCATEservice to tell us when and where you are travelling abroad, or where you live abroad, so our consular and crisis staff can provide better assistance to you in an emergency. More information about registering with LOCATE can be found here. This website provides information on the help that we can offer at the High Commission if you experience any problems while in the region.

A large number of visitors to the website and to the High Commission itself are local people who want to visit the UK. See information about visasand downloadable application forms. The High Commission also provides welfare services for the large number of Fiji nationals in the British Army and their families.

These are just a few of the areas that our website covers. Please keep in touch. We love to hear from you and will do our best to answer any queries and share perspectives. You can do this by contacting the High Commission directly or via this feedback form.

Thank you.

Mac McLachlan
